SOUNDDRUG - NOPARTS
Now, every so often at The Math Rock Blog whilst spinning in my office chair in circles to ‘Kelly’ by Tera Melos, I occasionally listen to other bands and have no idea what to think of them. This was one of those bands.
Listening to SOUNDDRUG’s new EP, is a bit like what I’d imagine eating a Krispe Kreme doughnut whilst on LSD is like. It’s chaotic as fuck you probably weren’t expecting what you just saw, but I’m sure you’ll all love it.
(does that seem like I’m advocating drugs? because I’m not. Just listen to the damn EP why don’t ya?)
The EP is FREE and you can find it here:
Just as a note, for anyone about to click that above video be warned it is VERY NSFW. Lots of intense BDSM imagery going on, so that’s just a heads up.
Zorch - We All Die Young
Austin, TX hyper-kinetic duo Zorch premiere a new song today via SPIN.com culled from their forthcoming full length. The band also proudly announces signing to Sargent House for management and label, who will release Zorch’s album this summer.
Zorch will also play their semi-legendary annual multiple performance marathon during SXSW in Austin in March. Please see complete dates below.
Zorch is a duo from Austin, TX. Composed of Zac Traeger (keyboards, omnichord, vocals) and Shmu (drums, omnichord, vocals), the two hail from Wisconsin and Canada respectively. The duo met in Boston and began recording dozens of improvisational mixtapes, which, after moving to Austin in 2009, would help lay the foundation for Zorch. Since that pivotal move, they’ve quickly made a home for themselves in the city’s DIY scene, building a reputation on their intense, ebullient live shows and fan interaction.
Self-Evident - Our Condition (MV)
Here’s what some other websites are saying about this!
“That’s what I love about this math-like approach when it is done as well as it is on We Built A Fortress on Short Notice.-it is one damn fine album. 4/5 stars”
“Imagine Shellac’s 1000 Hurts stripped of its hardcore elements. Keep the driving guitar, but make it more textural than pummeliing, and the shouted lyrics, sungy with ferocious conviction. Now, add some jazz-like grooves to soften it up.” — Exclaim!
“You can call Twin Cities’s vets Self-Evident’s sixth album “math rock” -But long before we heard that term, the area’s Rifle Sport, Man Sized Action, Baby Astronauts, Halo of Flies, Mecht Mensch, Ground Zero, and Otto’s Chemical Lounge set guitars on noisy-jagged fire while making relentless breaks from orthodox rock rhythms. Add a side order of Ian MacKaye’s tuneful shouting, and here’s their meritorious heir.” —Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover #71
“It’s pretty cool math rock and I think you guys will like it!” — The Math Rock Blog
